Earth's Core

Today's story:

First, you must know how a teacher must be in front of their students. They do not have to pretend they know more than the students do, but they have to act like they at least have some idea what they are talking about. So there often is a somewhat haughty sound to the voice. It's a teacher voice. Keep that in mind for this next story.

Mr. Kelly:
"Ok class, this is an important point. It's important for you to understand this. The core of the Earth is liquid, or at least a putty type material. Because it is in this liquid state, it flows. And since it is metallic in nature and it flows it creates an electromagnetic field which creates the Earth's magnetic field which sheilds us from solar wind. So the core is LIQUID. Remember that. It doesn't seem like it would be....but it is. I hope you're getting that."

Mr. Kelly looks down to his podium and loudly picks up reading in the textbook,
"The inner core is the solid center of the Earth."

Doah!

ok- now let me explain my actions a little. The OUTER core IS LIQUID. So I wasn't just pulling that out of my ....hat. But the inner core is solid. But the timing of the whole thing was what was hilarious.
